Extra cycle parking for street theatre festival

The Cycle Shrewsbury team has arranged 20 extra cycle parking spaces in The Square in Shrewsbury during the three days of the street theatre festival, 4 – 6 September 2009.

The Cycle Shrewsbury campaign is encouraging local people and visitors to make more of their local journeys, such as into the town centre, by bicycle.

Better facilities will mean that the town centre becomes easier for cyclists to travel through in future; meanwhile the street theatre festival, when the roads are closed to traffic, is the ideal time to try cycling into town.

Cycle Shrewsbury will also be setting up their smoothie bike and information stall at the top of Wyle Cop, where festival goers will be able to make their own pedal-powered smoothies and get information about cycle routes, cycle training, events and organised rides.

Demand for cycle parking in the Square has been growing steadily and following this temporary arrangement there are plans to increase the amount of permanent cycle parking. The temporary racks will be placed under the Old Market Hall at the Princess Street end.

One lucky member of Cycle Shrewsbury has won tickets for the Cabaret at Shrewsbury Castle on Saturday. The chance to win a prize in the member-only competitions is just one of the benefits of joining Cycle Shrewsbury. Members also receive a discount card to use in local cycle shops and are kept updated on the latest news. Sign up online now.
