Asda pledges support to Cycle Shrewsbury

asda_cycle_pledge_signingAsda and Cycle Shrewsbury have recently signed a joint pledge committing their support to improving cycling in Shrewsbury.

Asda's Chief Executive Andy Bond is currently cycling form Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for charity. On Friday 28 August he stopped at the Shrewsbury store and witnessed Cycle Shrewsbury's Emma Bullard and Asda Shrewsbury's store manager, Andrew Perkins, signing the pledge. He also officially opened some new cycle parking which has recently been installed at the store.

Asda have promised to do a number of things to encourage both staff and customers to cycle to the store. These include nominating a cycling champion, providing sufficient cycle parking and holding bike to work days with Dr Bike checks. In return Cycle Shrewsbury will provide support including information on cycle routes, grants for the improvement of facilities for cyclists and improvements to key routes to work.

Cycle Shrewsbury is now looking for other businesses to pledge their support to cycling in Shrewsbury. If you are an employer and you are interested in working with Cycle Shrewsbury. Please contact Neal Challinor on 01743 255436 or email cycle.shrewsbury@shropshire.gov.uk.
