Women on wheels anniversary ride

Penny Latty blogs about her experience on the Women on Wheels anniversary ride on 6 March 2011...

wow-march-2011-porthill-bridgeThis was such an enjoyable day. Celebrating the anniversary of the Women on Wheels cycle rides, six of us set off from The Quarry in Shrewsbury.

We cycled along the river past the weir to Uffington, on through Upton Magna along quiet country lanes, arriving at Attingham Park for much deserved refreshments. It was so relaxing sitting in the gardens at Attingham, and just as we all sat to have our sandwiches the sun beamed on us as if it knew we had an anniversary to celebrate.

Continuing on our route it was lovely cycling in the sunshine over the original footbridge at Atcham, then homeward bound using the old railway route which was such a pleasure, via Reabrook, eventually emerging on the road, from whence we all went our separate ways. In all, we covered about 20 miles at a comfortable pace - no pressure on the slowest amongst us to keep up!

I personally would like to express my appreciation to committed cyclists Emma Bullard and Miriam Walton, who are very supportive of new cyclists and have such invaluable advice and help for all of us. So if you are reading this and wondering whether or not you dare try a cycle ride please do not hesitate because Emma and Miriam will support you all the way. You cannot afford to miss this golden opportunity so please get on your bike now!

The next Women on Wheels ride is on 3 April 2011; it's a special Mother's Day Ride so come along and bring your mother/daughters!
