Women on wheels social ride
Cycle Shrewsbury's promotions manager tells us about the monthly women on wheels rides that took place in april and May...We doubled our numbers in April, including two women who had come from Longden and Church Stretton to join us. The weather was great again and we followed a similar route to last time – but we added a tea and cake stop at Home Farm, Attingham which was one of the highlights.

People are already suggesting more things they’d like to do: basic maintenance sessions (how to mend a puncture); promote Cycle Shrewsbury to their colleagues at work; rides that start earlier in the morning (this one was not unanimous!).
The four of us who arrived back at Porthill Bridge (everyone else took short cuts home) were very impressed to see a stylish Dutch bicycle being ridden by a stylish woman wearing a long skirt and high heels - who says you need to wear Lycra to ride a bike?

May’s weather was a bit of a contrast and I thought there might be no takers for the ride, especially as it was Bank Holiday weekend. But five of us set off and were glad we did- the sky was grey but we had no rain, and we had a great ride on a new route.
We were all regular cyclists and decided to go a bit further and faster than previously – partly to keep warm! We went west out of town to Yockleton and then turned on to the quiet lanes between there and Pontesbury. We found that we got some fantastic views without having to climb any major hills.

In Pontesbury we joined National Cycle Route 44, the “Six Castles” (Shrewsbury to Leominster) which took us back into town, with a tea stop in Longden – thanks Bev!
Read Gerina Pijkeren's blog about the first women on wheels ride in March.

The next women on wheels ride is on Sunday 6 June 2010. Why not join us? Meet at Porthill Bridge at 10.30am. More information.
