Richard's ride into the hills

As 'Cycle Shrewsbury' gathers pace and the excitement builds I was asked if I'd like to try out a couple of rides that start and finish in Shrewsbury for a new Shrewsbury cycle rides leaflet. Of course I would!! Well I wouldn't want you guys getting lost if the directions weren't spot on.

As I was promised spectacular views I chose a couple of lovely sunny April mornings for my rides. The first ride took me south from Shrewsbury to Acton Burnell castle and Kenley, parts of the county I'd never experienced before, and I had a great time. Highlights included a footbridge over a babbling ford, the ruins of a castle (perfect spot for refuelling), and a couple of decent climbs with rewarding views from the top. The view from Lords Coppice is something very special. The second ride took me west to the Oaks and then on to Lyth Hill. When you get to the top of the Oaks I recommend a pair of binoculars as you can literally see for miles. The downhill section from the Oaks is also a treat whether you take the shorter or longer option on this ride. Lyth Hill is just a beautiful area, I could have spent all day there!

Two fantastically enjoyable mornings and rides, which will be on the new Shrewsbury cycle rides leaflet. Details of the new leaflet will appear on the Cycle Shrewsbury website soon! Until next time, happy cycling and I'd enjoy reading your comments about your favourite Shrewsbury cycle rides.
