Eric the cycling Dutchman

Eric the Cycling Dutchman During May 2009 Shrewsbury’s roads and cycle routes are being surveyed by a Dutch man named Eric. Eric now lives in Devon with his wife. As well as doing cycling surveys he runs a cycle holiday company and trains kids to ride bikes.

Eric is collecting data about all the routes in Shrewsbury and inputting them into his GPS device. The data will be used for an online journey planner which is due to be launched in the autumn on http://www.transportdirect.info. It will be like the AA routeplanner but for cyclists!

I cycled around Monkmoor with Eric last Wednesday to see what he was up to. Luckily the rain held off for the most part. My colleague, Alison wasn’t so lucky when she met up with him in Bayston Hill later that day, as you can see from the photo of Eric, they got rather wet!

I’ll update this website with progress to let you know when the journey planner will be ready for you to use.

Great news

I'm never too sure of the quickest routes by bicycle to get around Shrewsbury so this will really help.
