Shropshire is a cyclist’s paradise, with stunning countryside to cycle through from challenging hills to the south of Shrewsbury and rolling pastures to the north.

Shrewsbury cycle rides

A leaflet featuring four circular rides from Shrewsbury into the coutryside around Shrewsbury. The rides range from 10 to 29 miles long and take in some amazing views of the Shropshire Hills and attractions including Attingham Park, Home Farm and Lyth Hill County Park. The National trust offers free admission to Attingham Park grounds if you arrive by bike, find out more.

The leaflet is available from the visitor information centre, reference library and other libraries in Shrewsbury or you can order or download a copy of the leaflet.

Looking for something a bit more challenging?

You might like to try one of the national cycle network (NCN) routes which run through Shrewsbury:

NCN Route 81 – Lôn Cambria

Runs from Aberystwyth to Wolverhampton and passes through the heart of Shrewsbury, along the river. Both Welshpool and Wellington can be reached from Shrewsbury on Route 81 for a pleasant return day ride.

NCN Route 44 – Six Castles Cycleway

Runs from Shrewsbury to Leominster via Craven Arms, Bishop’s Castle and Ludlow. The ride takes in some of Shropshire’s most stunning countryside and gives you the chance to visit the remains of six historic castles. Why not cycle to Ludlow or Craven Arms and catch the train back for a round day trip?

NCN Route 45 – Mercian Way

Runs from Chester to Ironbridge via Upton Magna, near Shrewsbury. You can combine routes 81 and 45 to do a 36 mile circular ride Around the Wrekin.

Or you could combine a cycle ride with a train journey for a fun day out on your bike?

If you fancy catching the train to get to a bit of Shropshire you might not usually cycle in. Most of the market towns that you can reach by train from Shrewsbury have a leaflet of circular rides of a variety of lengths. Take you bike on the train and try out a ride from Wem, Whitchurch, Chirch Stretton, Craven Arms or Ludlow.
