Proposed and completed schemes

Proposed improvements to the cycle network in Shrewsbury have been broken down into different schemes. These schemes will be completed in stages over the course of the Cycle Shrewsbury campaign (2008-2011).

Follow the links on this page to find out about future proposals and what has already been done to make cycling in Shrewsbury safer and more convenient.

Proposed schemes

  • Smithfield Road: Proposals for a crossing refuge on Smithfield Road.
  • Radbrook and Bowbrook: Proposals to make improvements to some popular cycling and walking routes between Radbrook and Bowbrook.

Completed schemes

  • Telford Way: Cycle Shrewsbury's first scheme was opened by BBC Radio Shropshire's Jim Hawkins in December 2008. New cycle tracks and footpaths were installed on both sides of Telford Way.
  • Greenways in Greenfields: A series of surfaced traffic-free paths or 'greenways' on Greenfields Recreation Ground completed in June 2009.
  • Minor improvements: Find out about smaller schemes, such as schools cycle parking and path resurfacing, which were completed between March-August 2009.
  • Welsh Bridge: have your say on proposals to improve crossing facilities at the Welsh Bridge junction.
  • Cycle parking trial: new style of cycle parking in Shrewsbury town centre.
  • Monkmoor Road: trial of red surfacing on cycle lanes at junctions with side roads
  • Crossing improvements for pedestrians and cyclists at Old Potts Way and the Roman Road/ Longden Road island
  • Oakmeadow Primary School, Bayston Hill: safer routes to school.
  • York Road: safer routes to school programme to improve safety on a route to Greenacres Primary School, Grange Primary School and Grange Secondary School.
