Proposal for a pedestrian crossing refuge on Smithfield Road

Following the completion of the junction improvements at Welsh Bridge, we are working on the next phases of Connect2 to link the walking and cycling route along Smithfield Road with Roushill, Raven Meadows and Meadow Place. 

 

As a first step, we propose to introduce a pedestrian crossing refuge on Smithfield Road, to be located between Roushill and the Frankwell footbridge. This crossing point would help pedestrians and cyclists to cross between the town centre and the riverside, and provide clearer traffic lane markings for motorists.

 Improved crossing facilities were requested by a number of people during the Welsh Bridge consultation in November/ December 2009.
